Poker is fundamentally a gambling game and is played either for money or for chips purchased from the game's banker. In all of the many variations there are betting rounds during which each player in the game must fold (stop playing the hand), call (equal the bet made), or raise (increase the bet made). All bets are placed together to form a pot. The object of all poker games is to win the pot either by holding the best hand or by inducing (bluffing) the others to drop.
In order to earn a steady income playing poker, cash games are the way to go. Tournaments get all the publicity, but the cash game players are the ones who are really making the bank.
Cash game strategy is completely different from what you may be used to in poker tournaments. The blinds will always stay small in proportion to the stack sizes, and you can add more chips whenever you get low. You can play one hand and then get up and leave, or 1000 hands. There’s no busting out of the game, unless you lose your bankroll.
You should have a large bankroll for the stakes you’re playing. No single win or loss should have a large impact on your bankroll size.
